Russel joins the list of Britain's wounded eventers

Nick Skelton's Russel, the travelling reserve for Great Britain's showjumping team for the Olympic Games event in Hong Kong next month, was withdrawn yesterday from the Aachen Show - where the Nations Cup takes place today - because of a foot problem. Russel's injury adds to the setbacks suffered by the eventing team, who have lost Zara Phillips's Toytown, Lucy Wiegersma's Shabrak and two reserves because of injury in the past month. The remaining two reserves - Tina Cook, with Miner's Frolic, and Daisy Dick, with Springalong - are now included in the team of five. Such is Britain's strength in this discipline that the inclusion of the reserves does not impact upon the team's likely medal chances.
