A rain-ruined morning in the LV County Championship meant virtually no play was possible in either division.

Three matches were abandoned for the day before lunch without a ball being bowled, with the Division Two matches between Derbyshire and Glamorgan and Worcestershire against Warwickshire written off as draws on the fourth day.

The latter result pushed both sides close to promotion, with the Pears now requiring 25 points to guarantee Division One cricket next year.

In the top tier, Yorkshire were left stranded on 133 for seven in reply to Sussex's 265 all out when the umpires ruled out any play on day three.

For Yorkshire the situation is getting increasingly perilous as today's abandonment leaves them short of achieving any batting bonus points, with victory in at least one of their two remaining fixtures against Sussex and Somerset now looking necessary to give them a chance of avoiding relegation.

Play was also delayed in games between Middlesex and Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire and Somerset and Durham versus Lancashire.

Fans did see 13 balls at Canterbury, where Kent inserted Surrey on the second morning of their Division One clash, but neither of the Brown Caps openers, Scott Newman and Chris Murtagh, could add the first run of the game.
