Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: The Mount Washington Ski Resort has spectacular views and a lot of snow ­ 21 feet in 1995 - but it is a modest resort, with relatively few lifts, or night time distractions. It's a good idea to spend some time in Vancouver as well.

The resort's season runs from December 6 to early April, but flights to Vancouver in December are already running very full and expensive. You'll save a lot of money if you can wait until March.

While in Vancouver, you could day ski at Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain or Mt Seymour or even take a day trip out to Whistler. And on Vancouver Island's west coast, the grey whale migration will be in full swing too.
