We've made some changes
to The Sunday Times

Setting the scene
A guesthouse warren of eight rooms, with a two-room suite, in a peaceful area
just outside Kinsale.
First impressions
After the drive up windy roads from Kinsale Harbour, near the Spinnaker
restaurant, you are greeted with champagne in the conservatory with a
beautiful view of Kinsale and the bay.
Why it’s special
Raoul de Gendre used to manage the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zürich until he
settled here with his Japanese wife, Seiko, who worked in French fashion.
Comfort and good service are essential to the couple.
Hitting the sack
Downy pillows and fluffy duvets abound. Bathrooms are sleek and chic. Decor is
in creamy, restful colours. The upstairs rooms have a balcony just big
enough for two.
Added attractions
Nine golf courses near by, among them the K Club, where the Ryder Cup will be
held in 2006.
Sampling the fare
The Vintage, one of the best restaurants in Kinsale, serves traditional French
cuisine from Irish ingredients.
Star quality
George Michael and the Duchess of York have eaten at the Vintage.
Access all areas
Not suitable for wheelchairs.
What we think
Comfortable, cosy, with caring staff who aren’t intrusive — maybe a bit
pricey. The best room is number 5.
The bottom line
B&B double with a balcony is £120.
