First impressions
Large Victorian mansion sitting in three acres of landscaped gardens
that opened as a hotel in November; originally built as a family home for an
Addenbrookes Hospital surgeon in 1852.
Why it’s special
Cambridge has long needed a stylish contemporary hotel with a bit of
an edge — and now it’s got it.
Hitting the sack
Opulent crimson, gold and midnight blue taffeta curtains and
indulgent cotton bedsheets are in all 47 bedrooms and five junior
suites. The “super king-sized” beds have huge mahogany headboards and the
bathrooms are slate.
Sampling the fare
Overlooking the gardens, the Graffiti Restaurant serves meaty
Mediterranean food. For example there’s seared scallops and black pudding to
start and char-grilled swordfish as a main dish.
Access all areas
Disabled parking in front of the reception and access to all of the
rooms and facilities on the ground floor. Three rooms have alarms next to
the bed and emergency pull cords in the bathrooms.
Added attractions
One mile from the city centre; handy for parents visiting student
offspring. There’s a wedding licence and space for a marquee in the grounds.
What we think
Very good value for money and perfect for a relaxing break.
The bottom line
B&B doubles from £155.
