We've made some changes
to The Sunday Times

First impressions
Wind-worn beach huts and pastel cottages surround The Brudenell’s Edwardian
building, a pebble’s throw from the beach. The restaurant has a panoramic
window looking across the North Sea.
Why it’s special
The staff just can’t do enough to make you feel at home. Two days here and
you’ll feel invigorated by blustery beach walks and well fed by the talented
chef. In summer you can eat fresh lobster outside on the long terrace.
Hitting the sack
The 42 rooms are decorated in pale colours and have sand-coloured flooring.
Sunflower yellow suede cushions are scattered about and lively blue
seascapes are on the walls. Marine-scented products in your room include
shampoo with sea kelp and sea rocket body wash.
Sampling the fare
Most of the food is sourced locally with the emphasis on fresh fish and
grills. Dishes include crayfish cocktail with caviar, seared scallops with
Parma ham crisps and deep fried cod in beer batter with chunky chips.
Added attractions
For birdwatchers there are RSPB reserves near by and two miles up the road is
the golf course at Thorpeness. Along the beach, local fishermen will bone
freshly caught skate for you to take home for supper on the day you leave.
Sex appeal
Book one of the rooms with a sea view and lie in bed listening to waves
crashing on the beach below.
What we think
A great British seaside hotel that’s not surrounded by noisy arcades and a
tacky pier.
Access all areas
Two rooms have been adapted for disabled guests and there are ramps by the
front steps.
Bottom line
B&B doubles from £126.
