PERSISTENCE, not money, is needed to book into the most spectacular hotel in Paris.

About 40,000 people a day are trying to score a night in the Everland, a pod on a roof opposite the Eiffel Tower, which offers stunning views of the City of Light.

The one-room “hotel” is a 10-tonne art installation perched on top of the Palais de Tokyo, the Art Deco home of the contemporary art museum on the Right Bank.

For its creators, the Swiss artist-designers Sabrina Lang and Daniel Baumann, Everland makes the guests part of the art while offering them an extraordinary night.

The retro-futurist pod is supposed to convey what the 21st century looked like in the 1960s. Its central feature is a top-to-floor bay window that frames the Seine and the rooftops of Paris.

In keeping with the other-worldly feel, the only in-room entertainment is a Sixties turntable and a collection of period vinyl albums.

The minibar, including two bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne, is included in the price, along with a good breakfast.

The hotel takes bookings for only two months ahead, opening reservations daily on the internet and accepting reservations on a random basis. It will operate at least until the end of this year.

The costs are about £248 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and about £330 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Closed Mondays.
