A new all-inclusive resort set in tropical gardens beside one of the best white sand beaches on Barbados has just opened, Sue Mallia writes.

The four-star Almond Casuarina Beach Resort covers 60 acres on the south coast of the island at Dover Beach, near St Lawrence Gap.

As well as the enticing beach there are three swimming pools, a fitness centre, tennis courts and a range of watersports with free tuition. Spa treatments are available at extra cost.

Guests can choose to eat at any of four restaurants offering international dishes, Caribbean cuisine or fine dining. Four bars serve premium-brand drinks and cocktails.

A free children's club catering for babies to 16-year-olds is also provided and a paid-for private babysitting service is available.

As an added bonus, guests at the 269-room resort can share sports and other facilities at Almond's two other four-star properties on the west coast. A free shuttle bus will ferry them to play on the nine-hole golf course at the family-friendly Almond Beach Village free of charge, or drop them off at the adults-only Almond Beach Club & Spa.

A “dine around” scheme allows guests to eat at the restaurants and drink in the bars at sister resorts at no extra cost.

A seven-night stay at the Casuarina Beach Resort from June 13 is on offer at £799 all inclusive with Tropical Sky, including flights from Gatwick with XL Airways.
