Take a look at the weatherproof range from B&W (01903 221800, www.bwspeakers.com ). Designed to be fixed to a surface either horizontally or vertically, they provide great performance, and start at a reasonable £199 per pair.

If you have a bigger budget, Nacsound’s range of stylish ceramic speakers, which start at £700, are a good bet. They are intended either to sit on a flat surface or to be suspended from thin wire, so you could hang them from tree branches, for example. Employ a certified contractor from a trade organisation such as NICEIC (0870 013 0382, www.niceic.org.uk ) to ensure that all devices are safely installed - and to keep the neighbours happy, site the speakers as close to the ground as possible, and near to where you plan to sit.
