Dundee-based Scotland Online has renamed itself Brightsolid, and is seeking to double its turnover to more than £10m and return to profitability after a couple of loss-making years.
The company plans to expand beyond its current niche market of online genealogy and into new areas including the provision of online and hosting services for the financial and oil and gas sectors. It also looks set to reinforce a partnering arrangement with SunGard, the US-based availability services giant.
“Brightsolid aims to be the business-critical internet- services provider of choice,” said Chris van der Kuyl, who became the company’s chief executive last October.
The company, which is owned by publishers DC Thomson and merchant bank Noble Grossart, made a net loss of £1.96m on turnover of £4.66m in the year to March 2007 — a big drop from profits of £1.3m on sales of £4.85m in the previous year.
“We anticipate that turnover will have risen to more than £10m in the current financial year,” said van der Kuyl.
