The statistic has been revealed as the airline launches a scheme on November 1 to improve the medical assistance available to its passengers. Practising doctors who enrol in the airline’s Miles & More frequent flyer programme will receive a joining bonus of 5,000 miles when they take their first Lufthansa flight.
The names and specialist areas of the doctors who enrols in the scheme will then appear on the crew’s passenger list. In an emergency, the purser can discreetly approach the doctor and ask for help. The airline says this is to avoid possible unrest in the event that the announcement "Is there a doctor on board?" is made and enable help to be given more quickly.
